Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 150th Anniversary Edition. Inspired by the legendary 20th Anniversary Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar pocket watch. To celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary, Audemars Piguet has taken inspiration from the legendary Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Platinum pocket watch, which was launched in 1992 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak. The aforementioned pocket watch, reference 25729PT, is made of platinum, has a case size of 47 mm, a skeletonized dial, and is driven by the ultra-thin manual-winding movement 5020, which is completely skeletonized and hand-engraved.
For this pocket watch, Audemars Piguet created the 5020 movement, which is based on the 16-line manual-winding open-face pocket watch movement Lépine 151 provided by Frédéric Piguet. Meanwhile, the calendar module is derived from a kit from Dubois Dépraz. Both manufacturers are long-term partners and suppliers of Audemars Piguet.
the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 150th Anniversary, reference 26585XT.OO.1220XT.01, is made of titanium with BMG (bulk metallic glass) and has a case diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 9.9 mm. This vintage-style watch connects the past and the present, paying homage to the Audemars Piguet automatic calibre 5135. The watch is presented on a Royal Oak bracelet, also made of titanium with BMG (bulk metallic glass) centre links.
The 41 mm case with BMG bezel and case back, titanium case middle and screw-down crown ensures water resistance to 20 metres.
The calibre 5135 is a skeletonised version of the calibre 5134, which powers all Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watches released since 2015. Based on its predecessor, the Calibre 2120, the automatic calibre 5134 consists of 374 parts and 38 jewels, offers a 40-hour power reserve and beats at 19,800 vph. The calibre 5135 has the same specifications as the calibre 5134.
Surprisingly, Audemars Piguet didn’t equip this celebratory watch with the just-launched automatic calibre 7138, which is now Audemars Piguet’s in-house perpetual calendar movement, with all adjustments made via the crown and without the use of any case correctors. Also, we think this watch should have been made in platinum rather than titanium.
Limited to just 150 pieces, the watch features exclusive anniversary design codes – including the Audemars Piguet cursive font next to the moon phase indication on the dial – while fusing titanium with bulk metallic glass (BMG) in the case and bracelet.
This beautiful-looking watch promises to help the brand return to its roots and origins.
